League of Legends is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game developed by Riot Games. The game is played by two teams of five players that each have their own base on opposites sides of the map. The player controls one champion, a character with special abilities and unique play style, and battles against the opposing team in a variety of game modes, such as Summoner's Rift. Players must work together with their team to destroy the opposing team's "nexus", a structure which lies at the heart of a base protected by defensive structures. Each player starts off with a basic amount of gold, and can earn more by defeating the opposing team's champions, destroying structures, and killing creeps. This gold can be spent in order to buy in-game items that provide a variety of benefits. This includes items that grant champions special buffs that make them stronger, more resistant to certain types of damage, or have new abilities. League of Legends is a team-based strategy game that requires a large amount of teamwork and cooperation. The game's popularity stems from its depth of gameplay, high skill ceiling, and replayability.
